The Lusaka City Council-LCC police in collaboration with the state police has arrested 13 vendors during the operation conducted in the Central Business District-CBD in its efforts to clear traders operating in undesignated areas.
During the exercise, various merchandise from street vendors and shop owners were confiscated.
The joint operation targeted shop owners who have the tendency of displaying goods incorrectly and at least eight shop owners had their goods seized.
LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said the arrested vendors, who were selling various food items on the streets, are currently in custody.
Ms Mwamba added that the shop owners, whose goods were confiscated, will appear in the the competent court of law while others will pay penalties to the Council.
She said this operation is part of the Council’s efforts to restore order in the CBD and ensure compliance with trading regulations.
Ms Mwamba has therefore warned street vendors to cease operations immediately, as they are trading in non-designated areas.
