LCC CONDEMNS VANDALISM OF FIRE TRUCK

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has expressed deep concern over the recent vandalism of one of its fire trucks by some unruly residents of Matero area.
The incident occurred when firefighters responded to a reported house fire in Matero, Shadracks neighborhood on Saturday afternoon at approximately 16:00 hours.
Despite the firefighters’ efforts to extinguish the fire, a group of unruly community members pelted the fire truck with stones, forcing the team to retreat to avoid harm.
Council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba has emphasized that such hostility towards Council officials during the performance of their duties is entirely unacceptable.

Ms Mwamba said frontline workers, who provide essential services to the community, deserve respect and dignity.
“The fire brigade’s mandate is to save lives and protect property during fire incidents, and they should be able to carry out their duties without fear of violence or intimidation,” she said.
Ms Mwamba has since appealed to all Lusaka residents to refrain from acts of violence and destruction directed at Council officials and property.
